Social Media Club Toronto Chapter Kick Off Meeting

Kick Off discussion of SMC Toronto

After waiting months for a Toronto chapter of the Social Media Club, we finally had our kick off meeting last night. Earlier this year, I met Chris Heuer in Vancouver at the Northern Voice conference and he was talking about making SMC his full time job, what it is, and his passion about it. This lead to the discussion of wanting to have a Toronto chapter. I joined to become a cofounder, paid my dues and waited. I got an email from Michele Marques inquiring about setting up a Toronto chapter (yoo hoo, I exclaimed internally) and we set off and planned for a meeting.

logo_smc.gifFrom the SMC website, it’s purpose is to share best practices, establishing ethics and standards, and promote media literacy around the emerging area of Social Media. This is the beginning of a global conversation about building an organization and a community where the many diverse groups of people who care about social media can come together to discover, connect, share, and learn.

From the graphic I created above, you can see that the SMC Toronto chapter has similar goals and we’re off to a good start. Everyone is welcome to join us in this endeavor. Since Toronto is the number 2 (London just bumped us) network on Facebook, why not have the group setup there? Click here to join the group. We will also update our SMC wiki along the way.
